Schoolboy Q is a master of juxtaposition. In his music, the Black Hippy heavy often will say the rawest and darkest things in the most serene and detached ways (check “Hoover St” for example). Q exhibited this contrast on ESPN’s Highly Questionable where he ranged from tongue in cheek humor re: Kathy Griffin to discussing some of the darkest and most fearful times in his life as a gang banger. As has also been on display in his art, ultimately, it was his daughter that caused him to make one of the most important pivots of his life. Check out the video.
