Finding The GOAT (Round 1): Logic vs. Action Bronson…Who You Got?

We have almost reached the second round in the ultimate battle for the title of the GOAT (Greatest of All-Time). We are asking you to help us rank who is the greatest MC to pick up a mic. We will take over 35 years of Hip-Hop into consideration, pairing special match-ups in a “playoffs style.” Since Fall 2014, and for the next several months, we will roll out battles, starting with artists from similar eras paired against one another, until one undisputed King or Queen of the microphone reigns supreme.

In an unusual turn of events, Logic and Action Bronson were in fact neck-in-neck in one of last month’s wild card ballots for GOAT, resulting in an exact tie, at 12.04% of the votes, each. Two underground MCs, who at least gained fame before signing major label deals, these guys both look back to the 1990s way of rapping, storytelling, and image. Before we kick off an exciting Round 2, with 84 MCs left on the table, this score needs settled for once, and for all, from these two chart-rattling magazine-covering rappers with flare and skill. So…who you got (click on one to vote)?

Logic

The latest DIY superstar, Logic took strong honors in 2014 with his debut album, Under Pressure. Now backed by Def Jam Records, this Gaithersburg, Maryland MC integrates a fast, nimble flow into unraveling his personal stories centered around family, poverty, and addiction. Young Sinatra, as he calls himself, has been a tour de force through live shows, deft concept, and a hard to rival connection with his legions of fans who have inaugurated a Rap star that looks new and yet feels familiar.

Other Notable Songs:

“Young Sinatra II” (2011)
“Roll Call” (2013)
“Nasty” (2013)

Action Bronson

ActionBronson_GOAT
With humor, flare, and a keen descriptive sense, Action Bronson went from deep underground MC to burgeoning blog artist to mainstream MC in three years. The Flushing, Queens native applied an anachronistic New York City experience to his rhymes about sex, food, and dreams of grandeur. Initially a professional chef, Bronson’s ability to use classic Rap recipes with modernized palette pleasers has made his offerings highly sought after, especially considering his ceaseless output.

Other Notable Songs:

“Night Court” (2011)
“Buddy Guy” (2011)
“Contemporary Man” (with Party Supplies) (2012)
