Common Speaks on Why He Left Oprah Hanging at The Oscars (Video)

Common has deservedly received a lot of attention this week after winning his first Oscar, along with John Legend and Rhymefest, for Best Original Song for “Glory,” from the movie Selma. His performance and acceptance speech were highlights of the Academy Awards.

However, something that occurred immediately prior to his speech became the subject of a lot of social media activity, as well. Right after Common and Legend were declared the winners, Oprah jumped up to give them high fives…and Common dodged her quicker than Money Mayweather ducks a punch. Of course Common and Oprah have a long history of warmth and mutual admiration, so the “snub” was unintended, but it made for some good comedy and Jimmy Kimmel mined it.

The veteran Chicago MC sat with Kimmel to discuss his Oscar, Jay Z’s reaction and the hand slap that was not meant to be. Check out the video.
