Jadakiss Takes Jay Z’s Beat and Gets Far From Jiggy With It (Audio)

In the 2010s, Heads may not realize it, but Jadakiss has released some of the coldest music that still carries the Roc-A-Fella Records logo on the back. That said, ‘Kiss takes an In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 standout moment from Jay Z and makes it his own.

“Where I’m From,” with a cold sample chop by D-Dot and Amen Ra (of Bad Boy’s Hit-men at the time), was Jay’s Brooklyn safari, “where the news cameras never come.” Timeless, gritty, and downright literary, Jada’ maintains the format and approach, and brings Heads Uptown, to his Yonkers. The Y-O is still raw, and Jadakiss’ amazing delivery and intricate wordplay show as much, as ‘Kiss reworks some of Jay’s great lines. To quote M.O.P., “If you’re comfortable across town, stay across town.”

Freestyles of this variety are a welcomed treat, and one can only wonder if D-Dot and Amen-Ra ever shopped The L.O.X. this very same beat back in ’97.

I’m from where the suckas hate, but I hate the suckas.”
