Chris Rivers Opts for a Lyrical Tribute to Sean Price in the Form of a Freestyle (Audio)

As fans know, Chris Rivers has been on a lyrical tirade in recent weeks, using Fridays to release freestyles over a vast array of beats, both classic and obscure. The weekly celebrations are all part of an extended promotional plan as he gets closer and closer to releasing M.C. (Medicated Consumption), a mixtape that will undoubtedly showcase the 19-year-old’s lyrical capabilities, Bronx influence, and versatility. Thus far, he has ripped bars over tracks from Jay Z, Brand Nubian, The Neptunes, Dr. Dre, and more, showing off his nuanced ear for beats and his ability to bounce from one to another with the skill of a veteran.

This week’s freestyle may be the most solemn, as Rivers decided on a Sean Price track upon which to flow. Simply titled “RIP Freestyle,” the track is Rivers’ rendition of Sean P’s “Figure Four,” a 2010 cut from the late MC who passed away on August 8. “RIP” differs from its predecessors in other ways, too, as Rivers dedicates the entire freestyle to P and even adopting P’s thunderous, deep cadence. Check it out here, and stay tuned for the official release date for M.C., slated for some time in October.
