First Division & DJ Premier Put It Down For The Culture In Front Of Its Monuments (Video Premiere)

Early this summer, Canadian Hip-Hop duo First Division shared their latest single, “This Iz Tha Time.” Produced by DJ Premier, the moment was a call to our arms in the Hip-Hop spirit of showing and proving. In the video from the September 25 Soulspazm Records/Spaghetti Bender Music album Overworked & Underpaid , Shylow and Expertise embark on a journey through the New York City boroughs in search of landmarks. DJ Premier, back at the turntables and mixer, remains in contact through scratches.

In the moving visual, Heads will see 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx—the site where DJ Kool Herc created this thing we love. Murals dedicated to Big L, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and a Do The Right Thing parade are also featured, moving from Harlem to Brooklyn. Appearances by longtime affiliate Marco Polo, Panchi (NYGz), and others light the way while the Bomb Shelter Association affiliates known as First Division kick their reasoning for such a strong sacrifice—as Premier cuts up the chorus, and pounds the MPC pads.

Overworked & Underpaid features Rah Digga, Torae, Supastition, Prince Po, Skoob (Das EFX), and more as well as production from DJ Premier, Marco Polo, Kev Brown, Jake One, and others.
