Vince Staples Challenges His Comfort Zone with Major Lazer Co-Founder (Audio)
After releasing his debut solo album, Summertime ’06, in June, Vince Staples has been enjoying his busiest season yet. The ambitious 20-track project features Jhené Aiko, fellow Cutthroat Boyz Joey Fatts & ASton Matthews, and extensive production from No I.D. The Long Beach, California rapper already has a spot in XXL‘s Freshman Class under his belt and his collaborations with the likes of Odd Future, Mac Miller, Common, and Ghostface Killah have made him one of the stand-out stars in the latest generation of MCs.
Now he’s back with another “Ghost” on a track produced by Switch, a founding member of the Electronic group Major Lazer (he left the group in 2011). Switch has made a name for himself as a producer for big-name artists like M.I.A., Santigold, Beyoncé, Brandy, and Christina Aguilera and now the Londoner is part of another group called With You. They’ve enlisted the help of Staples on this House track, one that bounces along as Staples rhymes about a party girl whose antics may turn out to be deadly. On the hook, Staples warns that one could “get so damn high, might see a ghost.”
