Flying Lotus, Shabazz Palaces, Thundercat Join Forces & Enlist George Clinton (Audio)

In what may be Hip-Hop’s newest and most exciting triad, three individually incredible artists have formed a singular unit to form a three-headed hybrid that incorporates multiple genres and aesthetics into WOKE. Featuring producer and DJ Flying Lotus, experimental Hip-Hop duo Shabazz Palaces, and Psychedelic Funk multi-instrumentalist Thundercat, WOKE has released their debut single in the form of “The Lavishments of Light Looking,” the latest in Adult Swim’s Singles series. And, as if that trifecta of talent wasn’t enough, the Godfather of Funk himself George Clinton is a featured guest on the track.

Flying Lotus (known as FlyLo to fans) has been a longtime Hip-Hop collaborator, working with everyone from Chance the Rapper, Earl Sweatshirt, Kendrick Lamar, Oddisee, and Snoop Dogg. Shabazz Palaces is a Seattle-based outfit featuring Ishmael Butler, aka Palaceer Lazaro (fka Digable Planets’ MC Butterfly) and Tendai “Baba” Maraire. Thundercat is also a frequent collaborator of today’s most dynamic Hip-Hop artists and has worked extensively with Lamar (his musical fingerprints are all over To Pimp a Butterfly), Erykah Badu, Bilal, and many others. Check out the lush and Afro-futuristic “The Lavishments of Light Looking” below.
