Grab Your Charles Dickens. Ice Cube Is The Next Mr. Scrooge.

In music, in film, and in life, Ice Cube is many things. Some of his greatest successes in each have come with the Los Angeles, California native as cranky, irritable, and just downright mad. Whether that’s film roles in Higher Learning, 21 Jump Street, or Ride Along, or songs through his solo material, N.W.A., and Westside Connection work, it pays to be pissed off sometimes. As Cube’s profile has elevated, fresh off producing the record-breaking Straight Outta Compton, Universal Pictures announces O’Shea Jackson, Sr. in a 170 year-old Charles Dickens-written role.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Cube will play “Mr. Scrooge” in Universal’s upcoming adaptation of A Christmas Carol. The furrowed brow of Ice Cube takes on the famed lead character, who cannot see the value in Christmas. In a long line of Dickensian adaptations, this one will be called Humbug.

The film is to be directed by Cube’s recurring collaborator, director Tim Story. The film’s star will reportedly also serve as a producer.

Could Ice Cube breathe new life into an 1843 novella? On paper, will you see this?
