August 2015 was an incredibly complex month for Hip-Hop. On the one hand, it was filled with tragedy and will forever be remembered as the month when we lost the great Sean Price. On the other hand, the month also brought a new album from Method Man, the first album from Dr. Dre in nearly 16 years, and the most successful music biopic of all-time in the form of the N.W.A. film, Straight Outta Compton. As we say goodbye to Summer and ease our way into September, here’s a look back at some of the best music from August.

In this Best Hip-Hop of August 2015 playlist, you’ll hear music from Method Man, Scarface, Talib Kweli, Yasiin Bey, The Game, Chris Rivers, M.O.P., Rapsody, Your Old Droog, Jay Rock & Kendrick Lamar, Styles P, Sheek Louch, Chance the Rapper, Lupe Fiasco, Mac Miller, AZ, Warren G, Sean Price and more. Though his album is stellar, you won’t hear music from Dr. Dre as it is locked behind the walls of Apple Music and other such services.

Press play, reflect on the great music of the month and celebrate the life and legacy of Sean P.
