Ty Dolla $ign has quickly shown himself to be one of the most talented songwriters of his class. In addition to writing smashes for Kanye West, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, YG and Wiz Khalifa. He’s also dominated the charts with his own hits like the ubiquitous “Paranoid.” But, how does a hot young songwriter get better? By learning from the greats before him. On his song, “Solid,” Ty collaborates with one of the greatest of all-time, in Kenneth “Babyface” Edmunds.

While he has not been as prolific in recent years, in the 80s and 90s, Babyface penned classics by Boyz II Men, TLC, Bobby Brown, Madonna and many other of the biggest names in music. Face does not sing on the song, and it’s unclear whether he had a role in the writing, but his presence alone is a symbolic passing of the torch to one of today’s brightest stars.
