Killer Mike Endorses Bernie Sanders & Calls Him a Revolutionary (Video)

Last night, Hip-Hop and politics merged in what may be the most powerful way in a generation. Killer Mike hosted presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, where the two shared a meal, had a one-on-one discussion, and took the stage for a rally. Killer Mike (born Michael Render) has been an activist involved in politics for a long time, in fact running for political office himself. His music and interviews often spill into political content, so Heads were probably not surprised by his involvement in the 2016 campaign, but there were many who had not anticipated such strong words and action from the Run the Jewels MC.

For several minutes, Render explains to an uproarious crowd his decision to endorse Sanders, the Vermont senator whose progressive platform has enchanted millions of American voters. Sporting a Run the Jewels crewneck, Hip-Hop was front and center on that stage, from which Render applauded Sanders’ campaign initiatives, many of which involve helping poor and working-class families. “I’m not here to talk about benevolent politicians who are here to save the day,” he says. “I’m talking about a revolutionary.” He goes on to say that Sanders represents the political revolution that includes “healthcare for every citizen,” “a chance at economic freedom” for the 99%, and more. “In my heart of hearts, I truly believe that Senator Bernie Sanders is the right man to lead this country,” Render exclaims.
