Timbaland & Busta Rhymes Each Announce Christmas Day Mixtapes

While the record labels are traditionally closed over the December holidays, many Hip-Hop artists are hard at work. Christmas Day (December 25) has become a popular release date, especially for digital mixtapes. Two industry vets have eyed up next week’s holiday, with major plans.

Busta Rhymes and Timbaland worked together on The Big Bang‘s “Get Down” a decade ago. These former collaborators have each announced plans for mixtapes.

For Busta, the Long Island, New Yorker is tight on details. However eOne Entertainment has formally announced that the Flipmode Squad founder will release Return Of The Dragon: The Abstract Went On Vacation on December 25. Presumably, “The Abstract” refers to Busta’s longtime collaborator and fellow Native Tongues product Q-Tip. In December 2013, the pair released promotional tape The Abstract and The Dragon. In 2008, Busta also teamed with MICK (f/k/a Mick Boogie) to release DILLAgence, a mixtape of Busta rapping on tracks by late collaborator and friend, J Dilla.

Timbaland’s plans are a bit more clear. His December tape is called King Stays King. There, the Mosely Music Group founder will release his first ever free mixtape. Previously, Tim’ has dropped three solo albums, and three Timbaland & Magoo productions, in addition to studio compilation work. The Grammy Award-winner will feature some unreleased Aaliyah vocals.

Which of these two tapes are you looking more forward to?
