Although Blackalicious always keeps it musical first and foremost, the Sacramento, California veteran duo regularly injects substance into their art. “On Fire Tonight” is the latest example of this skill. The Imani, Vol. 1 single “On Fire Tonight” could easily mean Gift Of Gab’s fast and furious flow. However, the visual and a closer listen to the lyrics suggest that the single applies to the unsettling police brutality going on across the United States. The record is one of uprising, lashing out, and standing up for what’s right. Nothing says that the music can’t jam along the way though.

Heads up, you can still stream the entire album—and it’s the pair’s first in a decade.
