DOOM Performs An Alternate Version Of His JJ DOOM Single At SXSW 2016 (Video)

Hi. We recently created AFH TV, Ambrosia For Heads’ streaming video service, because we believe real Hip-Hop deserves its own dedicated TV home, but we need your help to make it great. Please subscribe to AFH TV. It is only $1.99/month or $12/year, and already features some amazing content, but the best is yet to come. Thank you for all of your support.

DOOM was a showcase headliner at last week’s 2016 South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. There, the reclusive MC/producer did not appear in the flesh, but through video display. As part of a DOOMStarks (DOOM & Ghostface Killah) set March 17 at Elmo’s, DOOM unveiled an alternate version of J.J. DOOM (DOOM & Jneiro Jarel)  Key To The Kuffs single, “Retarded Fren.”

In the video, the MC formerly known as MF DOOM spits his same verse with a different beat. Who do you think produced the track? Do you think it’s a remix or the original version? All things are possible with the mysterious masked villain.

Late in the video, an apparent barbecuing DOOM gave fans a brief update, and some gratitude.

#BonusBeat: Jarel the 2012 original on the Lex Records LP (a label home of Ghostface’s too, as of late), as well as the original version (at bottom), featuring Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood:
