Last night, the annual Met Gala took place in New York City. Billed as “the party of the year,” the event is a benefit ball for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute, the only department of the Met that has to fund itself. As “the Oscars of the East,” it is a star studded evening that brings out A-list celebrities, fashionistas, billionaires and other socialites. In recent years, it is also notoriously the scene of the infamous elevator altercation between Solange Knowles and her brother-in-law, Jay Z.

Fireworks of a different sort took place at last night’s event. In a special performance, The Weeknd took the stage for a rendition of his song “Tell Your Friends.” Halfway through, he was joined by surprise guest Nas, whose new verse officially minted the occasion as the premiere of the remix. Undaunted by the highfalutin affair, Esco was laid-back, cool and in full Nasty Nas mode. The soulful Kanye West & Mike Dean-produced beat was tailor-made to elicit another vintage verse.
