ScHoolboy Q Takes A Popular Meme & Makes Major Album Artwork

June 16 UPDATE: ScHoolboy Q has revealed that the previously reported Michael Jordan-inspired cover to Blank Face LP, as well as a since-revealed Donald Trump “Deluxe Edition” cover were purely promotional. Instead, the Los Angeles, California veteran took to Instagram to reveal his forth album’s actual release artwork:

The release date has remained July 8.

ORIGINAL POST: Los Angeles, California MC ScHoolboy Q achieved a #1 album care of 2014’s OXYMORON. The first major label-backed LP from the Top Dawg Entertainment mainstay has eclipsed 400,000 units sold on his third overall release. That album’s artwork featured Q’s daughter Joy on the standard edition, complementing its personal addiction-inspired title and much of its lyrical theme.

More than two years later, Groovy Q is back at it with his Interscope Records-backed follow-up. Blank Face LP is the name of the work that features the Kanye West-assisted video single, “THat Part.” Notably, for this effort’s artwork, ScHoolboy integrates a popular Internet meme: Michael Jordan’s 2009 headshot upon being inducted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. To coincide with the July 8 album’s title, Jordan’s facial features have been removed from the photograph.

ScHoolboy confirmed the news, release date, and artwork via social media:

The Stashed’s Karl Lunsford and Kazeem Famuyide made a documentary earlier this year on the origins of the popular crying meme:

2011’s debut Setbacks and 2012’s follow-up Habits & Contradictions each featured black-and-white photographs of ScHoolboy Q. The color scheme for his fourth album remains.
