The First Footage Of The New Edition Biopic Looks Amazing (Video)

Late last year, Michael Bivins, founding member of New Edition and Bell Biv Devoe, revealed that he was working with BET to produce a biopic that told the story of Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown, Ronnie Devoe, Ricky Bell, Johnny Gill and himself, as they came together to form arguably the most influential boy band this side of The Jackson 5.

Given their decades-long run and the multi-layered dimensions of the lives of each group member, Biv explained that the story could not be told in a single movie, rather it would be the subject of a 3-part mini-series. Tonight, at the 2016 BET Awards, the network unveiled the cast and the trailer for the film and, at first glance, it looks amazing.

Starring Wood Harris, Luke James, Michael Rappaport, Empire’s Bryshere Gray and more, The New Edition Story follows the group from the days of their early childhood, through their re-formation with Gill and beyond. The behind the scenes drama is on full display, as the in-fighting is shown prominently and even gunfire comes into play. No date is given, but the end of the trailer promises that the mini-series is coming soon.
