In early 2015, Portland Trailblazers star Damian Lillard appeared on Sway In The Morning. The Oakland, California native proved there was more to him than a mean court-game, as he positioned himself as the best MC in the NBA. With a sick freestyle, the artist known as Dame D.O.L.L.A. began releasing music that pulled a following.

This morning, Lillard returned to Sway In The Morning. In the 10-minute segment, Dame discusses last month’s The Letter O album. The Front Page Music LP features Raphael Saadiq, Lil Wayne, Juvenile, and Jamie Foxx. The artist also defends himself to sports fans who urge him to worry more about wins and losses than bars and hooks. In his defense, Damian says his stats have never been better than when he’s been active in the booth.

At 6:30, D.O.L.L.A. lays into Tha Luniz “I Got 5 On It” instrumental, and sprinkles game about beating the odds, respecting the G-code, and keeping peace in the streets. This isn’t just a hoop star, this is a polished MC who commands respect—without the jersey on.
