Parrish Smith Has Hit Squad Heat On A New Solo Single (Audio)

Parrish Smith (aka PMD) has been building a solo career for more than 22 years. Whenever legendary group EPMD was on hiatus, both Parrish and partner Erick Sermon struck with side projects. Three albums, starting with 1994’s Shadé Business showed just was PMD was able to do on his own, both as an MC and producer. Since 2003’s slept-on The Awakening, Parrish has been much more quiet than his partner on the solo tip.

While E-Double has worked with Method Man & Redman, Bell Biv Devoe, and Joell Ortiz, PMD made a project with Germany’s Snowgoons and hardcore MC Sean Strange. Although the skills are in tact, this was a departure from the Funk grooves and melodic feel of EPMD. The newly-released “Trans” brings the groove back to Parrish’s sound. This has thick Electronic drums, with some Kraftwerk-tinged synth lines, over-top a Q-Tip vocal from “Find A Way.” Parrish owns his greatness. The MC talks slick, lays out his accolades, and explains just why his rhymes are ageless.
