Black Thought Asks “Who Want It” With Him On The Mic. The Answer Is NOBODY (Audio)

The Roots have not released an album since 2014. During that time, however, Black Thought has stayed hard at work. He and his longtime musical partner, Questlove, were deeply involved in the Broadway sensation, Hamilton, curating mixtapes, cyphers and more for the musical. Thought has continued working with DJ J. Period, creating live mixtapes featuring the likes of Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Pharoahe Monch, Royce 5’9″ and more. Of course, the artist born Tariq Trotter also has held down his gig as the resident MC for The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, through it all. Despite all that activity, Black Thought has always made time for what he does best: wrecking microphones.

Black Thought Recites The Verse Of His Lifetime…Literally (Video)

In 2015, he joined PRhyme, rocking for the first time over a DJ Premier beat. Last year, he wreaked havoc on a 9th Wonder track, with Styles P. Earlier this month, he and DOOM unleashed an unreleased treat, and those are just a few of the highlights. Now, Tariq and Watch The Duck team up with David Banner on “Who Want It,” and Thought blacks out with one of his most aggressive verses in some time.

Thought opens his verse with “I got the wordplay of Wallace, work ethic of Shakur/I was sent into the future with a message from the Moors/I went to war, my weapon’s just a blessing from the Lord/Rest assured that my pen is more mighty than a sword.” And, he’s just getting started…Make no mistake, though. David Banner is not prepared to be outdone on his own record. He brings the thunder, as well, with a charged verse that features lines like “FOX, CNN and white crooked police/Y’all can all eat a d*ck, see I tried King’s peace” and “see religion is a leash, it’s all slavery to me.” By the time he’s done, the answer to the question “who want it” with Black Thought and David Banner is clear: nobody.
