Dr. Dre Comes Out Blasting On His First Song In Nearly 2 Years (Audio)
It’s been 23 months since Dr. Dre released his Compton album. Save for popping up on The Game’s Documentary 2, the Aftermath Entertainment producer/MC has stayed away from the microphone, at least as far as what the public gets to hear. Reports indicate that the 35-year veteran has been busy, at work with LL Cool J and Eminem.
Following the premiere of the first episode of HBO documentary series The Defiant Ones, Andre Young breaks his silence. “Gunfiyah” shows an energized Dre collecting his props. “Who got a hit just like this? And got heart and rich like this? / Never failed, 20 years and he still got grip like this / And got kids with a super hot b*tch like this / You spending time try’na get like this / I wrote a script like this / I’m on some sh*t like, ‘I’m at home on the track, ni**a, this my sh*t’” raps the mogul.
“Gunfiyah” is a faster flow from the multi-threat, who often out-sources the songwriting. The song features a Reggae vocal sample. Previously, the N.W.A. alum displayed faster deliveries on songs like “Forgot About Dre.”
Dre premiered his song on his Beats1 “The Pharmacy” radio show. Over the weekend, Defiant Ones co-director Allen Hughes told Uproxx, “[Dr.] Dre still records. People don’t know this: Dre records every day. Literally, he’s in there recording songs every day. He’s like [Pablo] Picasso in that way. He’s always painting. Right now he’s producing, in the 11th hour, a track for Eminem’s latest album. So Dre’s still real active in music, you know? But I hear what you’re saying. It’s the truth.”
Perhaps the “fiyah” just started.
