Joey Bada$$ Unleashes 3 New Statik Selektah-Produced Songs (Audio)

Longtime collaborators Joey Bada$$ and Statik Selektah just dropped the digital equivalent of a 12” single, putting three brand new songs out back to back. Statik, who is also Joey’s tour DJ, has provided the MC with bangers throughout his career, including the beat for “Super Predator” (featuring Styles P) off of the Pro Era front-man’s recently-released ALL-AMERIKKKAN BADA$$ album. The unofficial duo doesn’t disappoint with a trifecta of very different, equally dope tracks that highlight the MC’s lyrical versatility, as well as the producer/DJ’s musicality.

The would-be single’s veritable a-side, “Love Is Only A Feeling,” is a jazzy number on which Joey waxes poetic about a lady friend. He showcases a soulful, melodic flow over a splashy-cymbal driven Statik-chopped HOMESHAKE sample of the same name.

“Too Lit,” on the other hand, is a highly percussive joint that somehow manages to be both uptempo and laid back. On it, young Bada$$ utilizes an intricate, fast flow over a smooth guitar loop and heavy-handed drum work.

Finally, functioning as the b-side, the pair offer up a return to the mellow, dusty, boom bap sound that made Joey famous with “500 Benz.”

Joey has been making some serious moves, following the release of his sophomore LP in April. Last month, he announced that a Pro Era album is the works, and he has also been in the studio with heavy hitters like Diddy and Swizz Beatz (although in exactly what capacity remains unclear). It would seem Beast Coast Heads have much to look forward to, concerning the rising Brooklyn, NY powerhouse.
