Anderson .Paak & Knxwledge’s Latest “Yes Lawd” Remix May Be Their Best One (Audio)

There’s such warmth in some music, coming at you like waves. The remix of NxWorries’ “Best One” is one such wave of feel-good energy.

Vocalist Anderson .Paak’s usually peppy, highly theatrical style is (almost) subsumed in the Knxledge mix so that it can sometimes be hard to make out the words. The 2016 original mix is much sharper, much more defined with its ‘80s Pop vibe.

First heard as a snippet at the end of April’s Paid In Full-inspired “Scared Money” video, this release comes from Yes Lawd! Remix album due November 17. On the record the pair return to reinvent last year’s album of the same name, released by the highly-trusted Stones Throw Records.

Knxledge brings forward the musical foundations, puncturing it every now and again with popping sounds in a way that feels new; as his label, Stones Throw put it, as beat-maker and producer he is “practically a single-man genre unto himself.” According to Bandcamp, it was NxWorries’ first single, “Suede” that prompted Dr. Dre to take notice and led to .Paak featuring on Dre’s 2015 Compton release and signing with Aftermath. Knxledge, meanwhile, co-produced “Momma” on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly.

.Paak has called Yes Lawd! his “best work” to date despite the massive success of his Grammy-nominated solo record, Malibu that came out last year, and frequent appearances on the releases of other artists, including Rapsody.
