DJ Jazzy Jeff’s 1-Hour Holiday Mix Puts Heads In The Spirit…To Move (Audio)

For the last eight years, DJ Jazzy Jeff & MICK have given music Heads one of the treats of the warm months, with their Summertime mixtape series. Now, the Grammy Award-winning DJ/producer has just what the people need for the holiday season. West Philadelphia’s star mix-master hits Heads off with a Christmas theme project.

The tracklist for DJ Jazzy Jeff’s Holiday Mix is 100% festive, bringing together a disparate group of artists, ranging from Run-D.M.C., Kurtis Blow, Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5, Nat King Cole, and Ludacris, all sharing their yuletide vibes.

Such mixes have become a mainstay of the Philadelphia DJ/producer who became famous back in the late ‘80s early ‘90s alongside The Fresh Prince, aka Will Smith. Overall, the mood of this Holiday Mix is mellow, that is until Run-D.M.C.’s “Christmas In Hollis” (a song that was released twice on different compilations back in 1987) busts things up, via DMC’s declamatory style, as he rhymes: “My name’s DMC with the mic in my hand / And I’m chilling and coolin’ just like a snowman.”

This mix has mass appeal for holiday shopping, gatherings, and more. The A.O.T.J. creator makes something fun and entertaining with unexpected additions and connections being made across the different genres; seamlessly put together, as you would expect by one of Hip-Hop’s finest DJs.

In addition to new music with Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff released an ensemble project with R&B singer Glenn Lewis in 2017, called Chasin’ Goosebumps. Available for full stream, the album (featuring The Roots’ Stro Elliot, Dayne Jordan, Masego, James Poyser, Rich Medina, and others) does just that.
