Joey Bada$$ Named Creative Director Of PONY Sneaker Company

Joey Bada$$ is an entertainer of all sorts, producing, rapping and most recently acting his way through his career at the age of 22. And now, it seems Joey is following in the ranks of fellow rappers-turned-fashion execs Andre 3000 (now a leader at Tretorn), Kanye West, and A$AP Rocky, as it’s been announced that Joey is now the official creative director at street-wear company PONY.

PONY, which stands for Product Of New York, launched as a footwear brand for athletes in 1972. Over the last four decades, the company has revamped itself stylings and offerings, but is focusing on street-wear culture, producing casual sneakers and clothing for the masses.

Andre 3000’s New Sneaker Line Is Oh So Fresh & So Clean

Earlier this year, Badmon teamed up with PONY to help relaunch their signature “Topstar” silhouette shoe, introducing new colorways to their classic sneaker look. Joey was the face of the launch, modeling a few different shoes for the company’s look-book for Vogue.

“I carry New York with me everywhere I go. It’s almost written across my forehead,” Joey Bada$$ said in a press statement for PONY’s Fall campaign. “I am a product of New York, working with Product Of New York and there are so many parallels between myself and the brand. The fact that it’s an O.G. classic brand, and that’s basically my sound – O.G., classic, timeless – I just thought it was a match made in heaven.”

Coinciding PONY’s announcement of Joey’s creative director position came a small release of “Pro Era” premium suede shoes, which went on sale yesterday (December 18) at for $75 a pair. They’re available in red, green and yellow colorways, with a “Bada$$” model in burgundy dropping in February 2018.

This isn’t the first time Joey Bada$$ dabbled in fashion. In September of this year, the rapper became clothing company ASOS’ first male cover star in ASOS magazine. He’s been known for his fashion sensability and has been interviewed by the The New York Times and Crack magazine on his style choices in the past.

Joey’s ALL-AMERIKKAN BADA$$ is part of Ambrosia For Heads’ Best 15 Rap Albums Of 2017 list.
