Anderson .Paak & Kendrick Lamar Perform Tints Together For The 1st Time

This weekend, Anderson .Paak brought his hometown of Oxnard (also the title of his latest album) to New York City. He did it live, care of a role as the SNL musical guest. .Paak’s Aftermath Entertainment debut released last month and features Q-Tip, Snoop Dogg, and Pusha-T, among others. However, one of the LP’s most standout cuts is its first video single, “Tints,” featuring Kendrick Lamar.

The funky and smooth song is about the rise of Andy’s profile, and how he wants to be out-and-about, but must take new precautions—for a litany of reasons. Like so many of .Paak’s songs leading up to this point, its written in a way that fits so many of us, trying to have a little fun, stack a little bread, and comfortably hide from life’s B.S.

Anderson remains behind the drum kit, showing the TV audience around the world his versatility. He is joined by a band and background vocalists. One of music’s biggest stars, Kendrick Lamar shows huge support to his Aftermath label-mate. K-Dot by appearing to perform his verse, suited up for the East Coast chill. The gesture shows just how deep the Aftermath family goes, as two of Dr. Dre’s standout acts of the last decade take some Cali’ sunshine to a brisk Big Apple night for all to see. This is the first time these two artists perform their collaboration together, but likely not the last.

Anderson also performed “Who R U?,” a second single released ahead of Oxnard. Dr. Dre and Mell produced this one. The host for the evening was actress Claire Foye.

Earlier this year, Anderson worked on The Black Panther soundtrack that Kenny and Top Dawg oversaw. They also previously worked together on Dr. Dre’s 2015 Compton LP. Four years ago last month, Kendrick Lamar paid homage to Method Man (and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, according to RZA) during a memorable Saturday Night Live performance.

Exclusive Kendrick Lamar videos, including episodes of Where It All Began, Grit, and Politics As Usual are available at AFH TV. Earlier this week, Kendrick Lamar appeared at Travis Scott ASTROWORLD Tour stop in NYC.
