Killer Mike Is Getting His Own TV Show & It’s About Questioning EVERYTHING

For more than 15 years, Killer Mike has been a Rap artist who has proven that he can give people information and then rally them to act. In 2016, the Run The Jewels co-founder led a successful campaign to “Bank Black” in his native Atlanta, Georgia. The statement  sent a message to other banks not to support causes and issues that oppressed some of their customer base. The rapper informed his fan-base of Black-owned companies, and suggested where people could spend money on household items too. In recent years, Mike has also advocated for the legalization of marijuana (and pointed to the racism that surrounds the issue). He went to the Supreme Court on behalf of Freedom Of Speech in Rap lyrics. Controversial to some, Mike has also advocated on behalf of gun ownership at a time when many are calling for stricter regulations. As if not busy enough, this year he took a board position at an ATL museum.

The Adamsville rapper is now moving into television. Next month, Netflix will premiere Trigger Warning With Killer Mike. The series sees the onetime OutKast protege asking hard questions, and going to unusual places. “Trigger Warning is about examining cultural taboos and giving viewers the space to examine the ‘what ifs’ and ‘why nots’ that limit how some people move and operate in the world,” Mike said in a statement.

Real Hip-Hop Finally Has Its Own Home On TV

“In six episodes, we explore the human condition using nontraditional approaches. Not everyone will agree with my methods (and some of what we’re putting out is f*cking crazy), but this show is about embracing your freedom to challenge societal expectations and conformity. This show is if an anarchist determined the status quo.” In the one-minute clip, Mike proposes that the Crips street-gang capitalize on its appeal akin to what the Hell’s Angel Motorcycle Club has done. He asks religious officials why the representation of Jesus Christ is so often white. Mike explores what exclusively spending money on Black businesses looks like, in a strip club.

The six episodes arrive on Netflix January 18.
