Anderson .Paak Announces “Ventura” Album Release Plans & National Tour Dates

UPDATE: Less than one week after his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Anderson .Paak confirmed the news he discussed while speaking as a guest. Following last November’s Oxnard album, Andy will release Ventura on April 12, 2019.

Paak’s second album with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment promises to contain more of the Soul music heard on 2016’s Malibu, 2014’s Venice, and his NxWorries work with Knxwledge. Dre is confirmed to be executive producer.

“Growing up in Oxnard gave me the grit and the church to find this voice of mine. One town over, I went further and found my depth. The duality of each place inspired me greatly and from that I made two albums at the exact same time but held one back because that would have been too many songs to perform live for you all! I like ending things on an even number, so welcome to Ventura,” Anderson .Paak said in a press statement.

To coincide with the news, Anderson .Paak has also announced the largest headlining tour of his career. Dates for The Best Teef In The Game Tour are as follows. ORIGINAL FEBRUARY 22 STORY: Less than two weeks ago, Anderson .Paak won his first Grammy Award in a rare category tie for “Best Rap Performance.” The win (shared with Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future, and James Blake’s “King’s Dead”) was earned for “Bubblin’,” a-mid 2018 video single that was not included in his subsequent Aftermath Entertainment debut. That album, November’s Oxnard, was executive produced by Dr. Dre, and featured one vocal appearance, and three co-production credits from the Doc. It also involved Q-Tip, Pusha-T, Snoop Dogg, J. Cole, and Paak’s label-mate, Kendrick Lamar.

For the versatile vocalist who both raps and sings (in addition to drumming and producing), the LP named after Andy’s hometown seemingly featured more of his Rap side than acclaimed previous releases like Malibu or NxWorries’ Yes Lawd!.

In speaking with Jimmy Fallon, Paak revealed that he recorded two albums worth of material. The second, more soulful collection, may be surfacing for public consumption. “I made a lot of music with Dr. Dre, prolly’ two albums worth. Honestly, it’s music that I really feel like getting out. Oxnard was a beautiful place where I got a lot of grit, and I was doing a lot of rapping.”

The 33-year-old says the latest in his trio of place-inspired albums (following 2014’s Venice and 2016’s Malibu) is a reflection of his experiences there, whether causing trouble in the mall, chasing Rap dreams, or attending church. “The town over is a little more quiet, more peaceful. I got into trouble out there too, but it gave me a lot more character and soul. I think I got more Soul music to present.” Of the possible upcoming release, he says,”It’s lots of Soul, a bigger tour, and the best teeth in the game.”

Last September, Anderson described a record produced by fellow Oxnard native Madlib with additional production work by Dr. Dre that was then planned to be on his 2018 album. However, it did not make the final tracklist.

Several Anderson .Paak songs are currently on Ambrosia For Heads’ official playlist.
