Update: R. Kelly was arrested last night (February 22). Video shows him turning himself in to the Chicago Police. Cook Count State Attorney Kimberly Foxx says that Kelly is facing 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving 4 victims, and each count carries up to 7 years in prison.

In a breaking development, a Cook County judge has approved a warrant for singer R. Kelly. Once apprehended, Kelly is reportedly on his way to court for sexual misconduct. The 52-year-old Chicago, Illinois singer has been charged with 10 counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, according to court records reviewed by multiple publications, including The Chicago Sun Times. A March 8 court date is listed among those documents.

According to CBS News, the 10 counts stem from charges against female victims between the ages of 13 and 16.

Steven Greenberg, R. Kelly’s attorney, told the newspaper this afternoon (February 22) that his client was not notified of the warrant. The representative said that R. Kelly maintains his innocence.

Another attorney, Michael Avenatti, has recently claimed that he provided the Cook County State Attorney’s Office with a 45-minute videotape of R. Kelly engaging in sexual acts with a minor, who is said to be 14 years old. The lawyer claimed he received the evidence from someone who knows both Kelly and the victim. It is unknown if that tape, believed to be from the 1990s, contributed to this development. Online, Avenatti praised the judicial action. He also plans to hold a press conference at 4pm local time today, in Chicago.

Less than two weeks following the last episode, he has been dropped from RCA Records.
