Dave East Will Play Method Man In The Upcoming Wu-Tang Clan TV Series

Last month, several cast members were confirmed for Hulu’s upcoming 10-part dramatic series Wu-Tang: An American Saga. The series is created, written, and executive produced by RZA as well as Alex Tse–the screenwriter of the 2018’s Superfly remake. Method Man and The Abbott are billed as executive producers. Meanwhile, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, GZA, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s estate are slated as consulting producers.

Moonlight‘s Ashton Sanders will play RZA while Messiah‘s Siddiq Saunderson will play Ghost’. This week, another member of the Clan. Dave East is confirmed as part of the cast, and believed to be portraying the Method Man character. Deadline, who broke the story, reports that the Harlem, New York MC’s role is for “Shotgun.” The publication writes, “[‘Shotgun’ is] tall, with a knack for rhymes, Shotgun takes pride in being the assistant manager at the concession stand next to the Statue Of Liberty. A popular figure in Staten Island, he stays above the turf wars.” Okay Player reports that “Shotgun” is “clearly supposed to be Method Man.”

Method Man, who is 6’4″, divided his youth between Hempstead, Long Island and Staten Island’s Park Hill section. In the latter place, he would co-found Wu-Tang Clan with his band-mates.

Notably, Dave East and Method Man have worked together on music. In 2017, the Mass Appeal Records flagship artist appeared on “Eviction,” a video single by Method Man, Hanz On, Max B, and Joe Young.

Previously, Dave East played “Hashim” in The Breaks. The MC’s label, Mass Appeal, and director Sacha Jenkins have made Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics & Men. After premiering at the Sundance Festival in January, the documentary is coming to Showtime this spring. Its trailer is available on Ambrosia For Heads.

Last year, Method Man released Meth Lab Season 2: The Lithium. In 2018, Dave partnered with Styles P for Beloved, in addition to solo sets Karma 2 and P2.
