Phonte & Rapper Big Pooh Are Making New Little Brother Music

Last September, the three founding members of Little Brother performed a last-minute reunion concert in Durham, North Carolina. In the backdrop of the place where the collective formed, Phonte, Rapper Big Pooh, and 9th Wonder got back together for The Art Of Cool Festival. It was the first show of all three members in more than a decade.

Several months later, appearing on The Breakfast Club, Pooh explained how the arrangement was made last minute between the three artists responsible for two acclaimed albums and a beloved retail mixtape. “People didn’t know, ’cause we weren’t coming out, making music,” Pooh said. “But we had all been in contact, years before that. Just building that brotherhood back.”

Now it appears that brotherhood is still continuing to grow. Fans are getting new Little Brother music for the first time in more than nine years. “I’m excited to announce that my brother Big Pooh and I are back at work. New Little Brother music and a tour are coming soon,” Phonte wrote in an email to DJ Booth. The publication’s Donna-Claire Chesman spoke to Tigallo following a new L.B. date that was added to the upcoming Hopscotch Festival in Raleigh this September.

Despite 9th’s onstage appearance in 2018, Phonte added, “After conversations with 9th Wonder following our Art Of Cool reunion show in Durham last year, the three of us mutually agreed it was best for [Little Brother] to continue as a duo.”

In March, Phonte released a four-song project Pacific Time. Last year’s No News Is Good News was named one of the best 2018 albums by Ambrosia For Heads. Apart from solo music, Foreign Exchange, and Tigallerro material, Phonte is currently at work on a project with Rhymefest.
