Reason Gets Ab-Soul’s 1st TDE Verse Of The Year & They Turn All The Way Up (Video)

NOVEMBER 26 UPDATE: In the middle of the month, Reason and Ab-Soul made one of Carson, California’s most meaningful records of all-time. Ab, who has revived the city’s scene in the 2010s, partnered with his Top Dawg Entertainment label-mate Reason for “Flick It Up.” At a time when Soulo verses have been scarce, this single serves as a warning shot for two artists warming up for big things ahead.

Now comes the video. Shot in a Del Amo parking lot, these MCs celebrate the good life together. Friends, liquor, women, and easygoing vibes detail a moment worthy of “flicking it up.” Since the song dropped, Reason received a Grammy nomination for his role on the chart-topping Revenge Of The Dreamers III compilation. After Jay Rock won big in 2019, 2020 could lead to more trophies in TDE’s case, with help from Dreamville.

ORIGINAL NOVEMBER 13 STORY: Life is too short to listen to bad music. So…let Ambrosia For Heads fight through it for you and only supply you with that great stuff. Despite the reports, Hip-Hop is alive and well and, in many ways, is better than its ever been. Not only are we able to go back and listen to all of our favorites, at the click of a button, there is also a ton of great music still being made by artists, young and veteran alike…if you know where to look. To help with that task, we’ve created a playlist with recent music—songs that have been released within the last year or so. We update it regularly, so, if you like what you hear, subscribe to follow us on Spotify.

Following last week’s “Same Ol’ Sh*t” drop, Reason is ramping up. The Top Dawg Entertainment MC followed with one of the biggest songs to date for the city of Carson, California. The area is home to TDE’s studios, Reason, as well as label veteran Ab-Soul. After more than a year of anticipation, the two MCs unite on “Flick It Up.”

TDE vs. Dreamville: Who Wins The Battle With These 2 New Songs?

Reason kicks things off with an inventive flow. “Ni**as talk sh*t, no comment / Ni**as ain’t did half the sh*t they rappin’ ’bout, ni**a, you ain’t caught no bodies / You ain’t never sold no drugs, ni**a, you ain’t never popped no molly / You ain’t never—wait / If I really said everything ni**as ain’t did / I would be ain’t-sh*t / And you ni**as ain’t sh*t!” he warns.

Soulo follows. “I got at least infinity flows / Abstract, assh*le, Ab-Soul / Infinity stoned / Endgame for my enemy, yo / Pen game, Incredible Hulk / Big fans, incredible bark / Big dog on T-O-P /R-A-P G-O-D / This sh*t is as easy as winning a spelling bee, spelling the letter ‘B.’” Using panning sounds, he follows Reason’s technique of giving the competition some criticism on why they’re just not able to do it like him. Heads eagerly anticipate a follow-up to 2016’s Do What Thou Wilt. In 2019, he appeared on Kembe X’s “Raised A Fool,” alongside Jay Rock and Zacari.
