Dr. Dre Is Hospitalized After Suffering A Brain Aneurysm

Hip-Hop lost another legend in 2020. In the closing hours of the year, MF DOOM’s wife and onetime record label, Rhymesayers Entertainment, confirmed that the man born Daniel Dumile passed away on October 31. No cause of death has been made public at this time. However, news of DOOM’s death has led to an outpouring of love and remembrance for the artist who co-founded KMD, Madvillain, DangerDOOM, Monsta Island Czars, and other Hip-Hop outfits. The MC/producer, who was believed to be 49 years old at the time of his passing, leaves behind a Hip-Hop legacy that spans more than 30 years and touched millions. Ambrosia For Heads will be discussing DOOM and his legacy in the upcoming episode of our What’s The Headline podcast.

Days after the heartbreaking news surrounding DOOM, another Hip-Hop legend’s health was in the news. On Monday (January 5), Dr. Dre suffered a brain aneurysm and was taken by ambulance to Cedars Sinai Hospital, where he remained into the week. On Tuesday, Dr. Dre’s Instagram account confirmed he was recovering, and thanking fans for their well-wishes:

Here Is What Else Is Happening Of Note:

Eminem and Snoop Dogg are amid a public spat. Twenty years after “B*tch Please II,” two different proteges of Dr. Dre are having words. Last year, Snoop explained to The Breakfast Club why Em is not is his Top 10 MCs of all-time. Now, in the recently-released “Zeus,” Marshall Mathers sent a jab to Snoop. Meanwhile, Tha Dogg Pound’s Daz Dillinger has suggested that the beef stems from Eminem refusing to appear on a Snoop project. Given Eminem’s previous frustrations with friends and peers decrying his art (see: Joe Budden), this could escalate. (NME)

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are discussing divorce. Sources say that the parents of four children have been living in different states during recent months and reportedly been in marriage counseling. (CNN)

Royce 5’9 and Benzino have been engaged in a heated exchange online over the last 10 days. The Slaughterhouse co-founder and the Made Men member (who also served as former President of The Source magazine) have sparred in an issue that allegedly stems from Benzino’s longstanding beef with Eminem. The war of words has now included mention of Benzino’s daughter, recording artist Koi Leray, and apparently, Royce’s mother. (HipHopDX)

Kurtis Blow has been released from the hospital after undergoing a successful heart transplant. The Harlem pioneer previously suffered a 2016 heart attack. Veteran executive Charlie Stettler shared a video of Blow dancing upon leaving the hospital.

3rd Bass’ Prime Minister Pete Nice has shared some incredible photographs and artifacts surrounding MF DOOM’s life and legacy. 3rd Bass famously featured DOOM (then known as Zev Love X) on the Prince-Paul produced “The Gas Face.” After a split with MC Serch, Pete and DJ Daddy Rich involved KMD on the 1993 Dust To Dust album.
