Raekwon Will Take On Ghostface Killah In An Upcoming Verzuz

On Saturday (February 28), D’Angelo participated in a new type of Verzuz set. The veteran singer, musician, and producer performed at Harlem’s Apollo Theater in a concert that included a surprise Method Man & Redman appearance as well as turntable work from DJ Scratch. True to form, one of Verzuz’ creators wasted no time promoting an upcoming matchup that returns to the series to its battle origins.

“Raekwon versus Ghostface,” Swizz Beatz told an Instagram Live audience over the weekend. “Whoooo!! What we talking about, New York City? Staten Island stand up! Wu vs. Wu. Raekwon vs. Ghostface Killah.” No date for the Verzuz has been announced.

RZA Explains Why Ghostface Was Hip-Hop’s Best MC When He Made Supreme Clientele

Rae’ and G.F.K. each debuted with Wu-Tang Clan during a 1992-1993 campaign towards Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). As the New York City collective expanded into solo works, Ghost’ played “co-star” on Raekwon’s 1995 Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… A year later, those roles shifted for Ghost’s Ironman. These two MCs have a bond that has endured for neither 30 years. They frequently still work together in the studio and on the road. Notably, neither Staten Island MC has mentioned the news on their Twitter or Instagram.

Previously, Wu-Tang’s Abbott, The RZA, took on DJ Premier in the early days of the series—an extension of a longstanding competitive rivalry, albeit friendly. In late 2020, another Verzuz battle was announced: Bun B revealed that he and UGK’s catalog will take on 8Ball & MJG.
