MC Lyte, Lil Kim, Monie Love & Rapsody Celebrate Queen Latifah (Video)

2021’s BET Awards were a celebration of Black women from start to finish. The 3+ hour show was hosted by Taraji P. Henson and featured performances and appearances by Issa Rae, Megan Thee Stallion, Andra Day and more. It also revealed to the world that Cardi B was expecting her second child with Offset, during a performance by Migos.

One of the highlights of the show, however, was an amazing tribute to Queen Latifah. The 30+ year multi-hyphenate entertainer, who began as an MC and quickly established herself as a talented singer and actor, was awarded BET’s Lifetime Achievement award for her decades of accomplishment.

As part of Latifah’s tribute, Lil Kim, Rapsody, Monie Love and MC Lyte rolled out the red carpet for the Queen. To start, Rapsody and Monie Love flawlessly performed her seminal hit, “Ladies First.” The song’s message of Black pride and female empowerment proves to be as relevant as it was when it was released in 1989. Next up, Lil Kim took the stage to kickoff Latifah’s anthem “U.N.I.T.Y.,” with MC Lyte taking on the second verse.

After the amazing tribute, Queen Latifah, herself, took the stage to thank the many people in her life who helped her reached the heights that she achieved, with a special shout out to her longtime manager and business partner, Shakim Compere.

Congratulations to Queen Latifah for this legendary milestone.
