After other Wu-Tang Clan MCs, including GZA and Raekwon, have made sequels, Ghost’ announced intentions to follow-up Supreme Clientele during the early 2010s. In 2015, Tony Starks freestyled to The Weeknd’s “Tell Your Friends.” Kanye West and Mike Dean produced that song—which was subsequently deleted. More notably, GFK rapped alongside ‘Ye on “New God Flow,” a remix single from 2012’s G.O.O.D Music’s Cruel Summer. That compilation reached #2 on the charts. West has also worked with RZA and Raekwon.

Mike Dean began his career as a musician and producer for Rap-A-Lot Records during the 1990s and early 2000s. He worked with Scarface, Devin The Dude, Geto Boys, and others. By the mid-2000s, Dean began mixing for Kanye West and working with Kid Cudi. As a producer, he segued to make songs for JAY-Z, Beyoncé, Madonna, and create a close collaborative relationship with Travis Scott.

The 2000 album featured 11 RZA beats, alongside production from Allah Mathematics, The Beatnuts, Inspectah Deck, Carlos Broady, and others. Last year, RZA told Ambrosia For Heads about why Ghostface making Supreme Clientele, and why he was the best MC in Hip-Hop at the time. “Most importantly, for me, to my ear, Ghostface became the best MC in the world that year,” RZA tells Ambrosia For Heads. “If there was a championship belt, he grabbed it that year.” He continued, “[Ghostface Killah] actually said, ‘I’ma go and collect some beats from the industry; I’ma bring it back to you. You can add your joints. But I don’t wanna wait for you to create.’” RZA admits that not all of the Clan worked this way. “I think Inspectah Deck had that problem of waiting for me—and then ended up not waiting for the full period—and then just jumped in. But Ghost’ wasn’t gonna wait either. He went and collected those gems that he collected from a lot of great other producers in the game—definitely Juju of The Beatnuts and everybody—and they gave him some gems. He brought it back to me.” Similarly, in 2016, RZA praised Ghostface’s ear for beats, and said he will be at the helm for a future Wu-Tang album.

Previously, Ghostface made a sequel album in 2015’s Twelve Reasons To Die II. He most recently dropped his self-released thirteenth solo LP, Ghostface Killahs, in 2019.
