Brandy Outraps Jack Harlow On His Own Beat

Earlier this month (May 10), Jack Harlow promoted his recently-released Come Home The Kids Miss You with a HOT 97 appearance. While appearing on Ebro In The Morning, the multi-platinum Louisville, Kentucky MC was asked to guess artists while hearing songs. As Ebro, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez played Brandy’s “Angel In Disguise,” they gave their puzzled guest some clues.

“Her brother is the reason why a lot of people are famous you could argue,” Rosenberg offered. Ebro added that the answer’s brother had “an amazing sex tape.” “Who’s Ray J’s sister?” Harlow asked, unaware of the song which released the same 1998 that he was born. Then, the 24-year-old added, “Brandy and Ray J are siblings? Nobody’s ever told me that in my life.”

The moment drew criticism from fans, and even another singer, India.Arie. Then, on May 17, the Grammy-winning Brandy chimed in against the artist nearly 20 years her junior.

“I will murk this dude in rap at 43 on his own beats and then sing is ass to sleep,” said the artist with three platinum albums and two gold. Later, she told a responder to her tweet, “I know I’m mad late… but it was a joke. I didn’t know he rapped so I was just Poking. but I see now this was a big thing a few days ago.” The singer/actress added, “See, I can have a little fun too. hehe…all love.” Harlow responded by playing Brandy’s Kanye West 2005 collaboration “Bring Me Down,” but cutting out the singer’s guest spot.

This morning (May 25), Brandy honored her word. The singer who worked with ‘Ye as well as Snoop Dogg, premiered a freestyle with Ebro In The Morning. Using Harlow’s “First Class” (which he co-produced), Brandy spits, “Allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is world-famous, one of the greatest / Living legend, did I mention my resumé is amazing? / Over 20 years and I’m still a topic / A b*tch is worth a million and I’m feeling philanthropic / Popular but now I’m poppin’ sh*t for those out of pocket.

Moments later, she has some fun with Jack’s name, “The game needs a breath of fresh air and I’m breath-taking / Painting pictures, Cinderella scriptures / But that don’t mean Jack in the streets / Jack of all trades, now I’m here Jackin’ for beats.” Brandy lays down her rap sheet and says she’s still getting money from television and music. The verse demands that her name is known, far beyond the Ray J association. She reminds that rapper is something she’s down before, and points to it—while perhaps jabbing at Jack Harlow once again: “This is passion / You woke up a beast, now it’s madness / Singer-slash-rapper, rapper-slash-actress / And reaching for the crown? / You might get a hand full of thorns, or maybe you just wanna be down?

Jack Harlow posted an Instagram story selfie in headphones, perhaps alluding to his response.
