C.L. Smooth Returns In A Verse With Rough Words

Life is too short to listen to bad music. So…let Ambrosia For Heads sift through it for you and only supply you with that great stuff. Despite the reports, Hip-Hop is alive and well and, in many ways, it’s better than it’s ever been. Not only can we go back and listen to all of our favorites at the click of a button, but there is also a ton of great music still being made by artists, young and veteran alike…if you know where to look. To help with that task, we’ve created a playlist with recently released music. We update it regularly, so subscribe to follow us on Spotify if you like what you hear.

Just days ago, Paul Wall and Termanology released Start Finish Repeat. It is the second album in as many years from the Houston, Texas and Lawrence, Massachusetts tandem—following 2022’s Start To Finish. Among many exciting guests, this 14-track collection features some legends, including Large Professor, Bun B, and AZ. Fresh off of some work with Blu and BADBADMAN, it also involves C.L. Smooth on a standout cut, “It’s Magic.”

Statik Selektah produces the song, which has a vocalist and a bouncy knock to the beat. “We do this with no apology / Paul Wall, Termanology / With hands down, one of the best—true—I gotta be / Fools running around here frontin’ through, probably / While I’m breathin’ all of my roses now, honor me,” begins the New Rochelle, New York legend. “Boy, you still in the hood? I be in the new spot / I go to the dealership; you be at the used lot / This is what separates me from you, clearly,” he says, apparently speaking to a foe. “Corey Penn in the flesh / And the talk never rests / When I could smack ya like ol’ boy did for far less / Do this for no clout / Show you what it’s all about / And for the record you can keep my wife’s name out your mouth,” he spits, weaving in a reference to Will Smith. “Do you wanna press charges with they ass, off top? / And he kept 100, my brother, zip-lock.”

Paul Wall rocks next, sliding seamlessly into the beat. Statik and Paul made albums together, which prompted the Term’ connection. The 1982 MC raps next, with his own cursive-style flow to the beat. In the verse, both MCs flex their confidence, their synergy, and elements from their background. Both prolific MCs, Start Finish Repeat is the first drop of ’23 for Paul and Term’—which has palpable cross-country chemistry from two trusted veterans.
