SZA Raps Harder Than A Lot Of These Sucker MCs

Life is too short to listen to bad music. So…let Ambrosia For Heads sift through it for you and only supply you with that great stuff. Despite the reports, Hip-Hop is alive and well and, in many ways, it’s better than it’s ever been. Not only can we go back and listen to all of our favorites at the click of a button, but there is also a ton of great music still being made by artists, young and veteran alike…if you know where to look. To help with that task, we’ve created a playlist with recently released music. We update it regularly, so subscribe to follow us on Spotify if you like what you hear.

TDE is closing 2022 with emphasis. Many Hip-Hop Heads eye next Friday (December 16) for Ab-Soul’s Herbert—the MC’s first album in over six years. However, today (December 9), Top Dawg Entertainment drops off one of the year’s most anticipated albums overall. SZA’s SOS arrives five years after 2017’s Grammy-nominated Ctrl. Featuring Don Toliver, Travis Scott, and a posthumous appearance from Wu-Tang Clan’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard, SOS also finds SZA spitting bars.

“Smoking On My Ex Pack” is a different kind of ex song. “Roll the clip and run it back / I’m really like that / I’m really not friendly / I need my credit, ni**as hate that I need the numbers, I need the data / Got you talkin’ crazy Abracadabra, you ni**as Sideshow / I’m bobbin’ like Psycho You gassin’ like Texaco,” begins the songstress who grew up in New Jersey. In confronting past lovers, she takes jabs at rappers, period. “I’m f*ckin’ on heartthrobs / I got your favorite rapper blocked / I heard the d*ck was wack / Your favorite athlete screamin’, ‘Text me back’ / I make no exception / The lesser part of me loves all the cap / He screamin’, ‘Get back togеther!’ / I’m screamin’, ‘Back of the bus, trick!’” The song packs the bravado, as SZA avoids singing altogether.  The 33-year-old diva closes with emphasis, confronting her critics: “I wipe my phone and gave some dome, I beat the case / Them ‘h*e’ accusations weak / Them ‘b*tch’ accusations true / You hatin’ from nosebleeds, I wish you well.

“Smoking On My Ex Pack” is produced by Jay Versace, who handled Boldy James’ 2020 Griselda Records LP, The Versace Tape. The producer also won a Grammy through CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST work for Tyler, The Creator.
