KRS-One Makes A Soulful Phife Dawg Tribute & Invites All To Join (Audio)

KRS-One was among the litany of artists on hand last week (April 5) for the Phife Dawg memorial at Harlem’s Apollo Theater. Now, the MC who was featured on the cover of A Tribe Called Quest’s Midnight Marauders album makes a song dedication to Malik Taylor, with a call to action for other artists to join in.

“Phife Tribute” plays on some classic Chi-Lites ’70s Soul, as Blastmasta KRS raps some biographical bars about his Queens, New Yorker friend, contemporary, and influence. This is a heartfelt dedication that provides some key facts about Phifer’s life and times, including special praise of his loving wife, who tried to prolong his life with a kidney donation for transplant.

Proceeds from this DJ Static-produced track will reportedly go to Phife Dawg’s family. KRS-One encourages all MCs who want to join to add a 16-bar verse to the track, and help raise money for Malik Taylor’s family.

As a note, this same weekend KRS-One restored his place as a fierce Battle Rap competitor against MC Shan.
