When Flavor Flav joined the cast of The Surreal Life back in 2004, it was like a punch in the gut. Even though Flav had always been the foil to Chuck D (the reminder of America’s nightmare) it was a satire in which we were all participating. When he stepped on that show and subsequently Flavor of Love, it was like the dark punchline had become the “reality” (pun intended). 10 years later, rappers on reality shows have become commonplace. Typically, however, it’s been a role reserved for those past their prime (to put it kindly) and many of whom were never considered legends in the the Hip-Hop world (Flav excluded). That’s why when someone of Ghostface Killah’s stature becomes part of the cast of a reality show, it’s a cause for pausing and reflecting. Ghostface has joined the cast of Vh1’s Couples Therapy. Whatever the reason may be for his decision to join the ranks of Peter Gunz, Joe Budden and Stevie J, let’s hope he got what he wanted out of it and his legacy remains intact. Here’s a clip of what to expect from the show.
