In a moment that was truly bigger than Hip-Hop (or any other form of music), the parents of Mike Brown, who was gunned down by police in Ferguson, MO, took the stage during the BET Hip Hop Awards at the conclusion of Common’s performance of his “Kingdom Remix” with Vince Staples and Jay Electronica. They said nothing, nor did they need to, as both the artists and the audience instinctively raised both hands in the air in a stunningly powerful moment of silence.
