2 Chainz for Mayor? It Could Happen in 2016.

2 Chainz demonstrated his political prowess quite well recently in a spirited debate with CNN’s Nancy Grace about the legalization of marijuana. Now, it seems he may be prepared to go a step further and run for mayor in his city of residence, College Park, GA.

In the last few days, the artist born Tauheed Epps, has mentioned to both XXL and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he has considered making a run for office, pending determination of his eligibility. In speaking with the AJC, he stated “I am looking forward to running at the end of this year or next year. [I’m] waiting to see if I meet all of the qualifications,” possibly a reference to whether his arrests for narcotics possession might prohibit him from seeking office.

If he were to run, 2 Chainz certainly would not be the first rapper to pursue a political office. Rhymefest notably was a candidate for Alderman in his hometown of Chicago, and Wyclef Jean made a high profile bid for the presidency of Haiti after the devastating earthquake of 2010. There also has been speculation about Bun B running for mayor of Houston.

If elected, 2 Chainz would govern some very recognizable residents of College Park, including Ludacris, Yung Joc, Monica, Kandi Burruss, Jermaine Dupri and Trinidad James.
