Is there any musical act bolder than Run the Jewels? In just two short years, the lethal combination of El-P and Killer Mike, has established itself as one of the most innovative, risk-taking and hard-hitting musical acts…in any genre. Their music is dark and aggressive, without sacrificing melody. Their lyrics range from the profane to the profound, and there is no social injustice–whether it be corrupt prison systems, drug-infested neighborhoods or police brutality–that goes unchecked. Quite simply, they are the essence of all that Hip-Hop can and should be.

RTJ’s impact does not stop on the mic. Recently, Mike and P decide to launch a video advice column for teenage girls and, rather than be snarky and satirical, the brothers in bars were deeply earnest, caring and wise in the counsel they dispensed. It’s hard to recall an act with as much genuine diversity.

Their latest foray into simultaneous weirdness and dopeness is a remix project of their Run the Jewels 2 album, where the music is translated strictly into cat sounds generated by the furry digital feline, Lil Bub. Meow the Jewels, as the remix album will be called, will feature contributions from Just Blaze, Alchemist, Prince Paul and more. Check out some Instagram snippets from El-P below.
