Over the last few years, Run The Jewels (the duo of Killer Mike and El-P), have released some of the most politically-charged music, in any genre. Songs like “Close Your Eyes (And Count to F**k)” and “Early,” from Run The Jewels 2, explore their complex views on police, given a rash of deaths of citizens at the hands of police officers, who have often gone unpunished. The picture for them is made even murkier, due to the fact that Mike’s father was in law enforcement.

They’ve released a powerful new music video for “Early.” Rather than appear in it themselves, they’ve created a black and white animated short, peppered with red lyrics, for emphasis. The jarring depictions of their words in such stark colors gives them even more power. Check out the video.
