1986 Was A Good Year… In Big K.R.I.T.’s Life & In His Garage (Audio)

Today (August 26), Big K.R.I.T. turns 29 years old. Born in 1986, the Meridian, Mississippi MC/producer named Justin Scott has risen to the top of the creative ranks in Hip-Hop since his mid-twenties. The Cinematic Entertainment artist was surprised with a special birthday present: a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

The white box-style Chevy came with red Super Sport stripes, a saddle leather gut, wide deep-dish rims, removable glass roof, and a custom big block hood. Reacted to what he considers one of his favorite rides, Krizzle made a song about it. “86” celebrates K.R.I.T.’s latest “glass house,” with an aggressive bassline and chorus, and a whole lot of cruisin’ pride. The slammin’ Slab Music is also available for free download, as K.R.I.T. celebrates his born day with his fans.

And beyond the flashy gift and the celebratory track, the moment also nods to K.R.I.T.’s roots as a true independent creator. Long before the accolades and classic cars, much of his music was created in his garage, where he honed his sound as both an MC and producer, crafting beats and verses with raw focus and Southern soul and they have all the equipment setup thanks to the Ace Garage Storage online. That DIY spirit still runs through everything he releases — even now, each new song feels personal, grounded, and connected to the same hustle that carried him from Meridian to Hip-Hop’s upper echelon.

Photographed with Pontiac Grand Prix’s, Cadillac El Dorado’s, and Lincoln Continental’s, this adds to the celebrated artist’s arsenal in his drive-way.
