Method Man Douses the Hood with a Reality Check (Lyric Video)

After releasing his first album in 9 years on August 21, Method Man has returned to his solo career with The Meth Lab, which follows 2006’s 4:21… The Day After. The Wu-Tang Clan member has spent the years since putting in serious work as a guest artist and actor, recently taking to the silver screen in Amy Schumer’s summer blockbuster, Trainwreck. Now the Shaolin native has brought back his undeniably masterful lyrical abilities to a full-fledged Staten Island affair, with his latest album featuring fellow Wu comrades Inspectah Deck, Masta Killah, and Raekwon in addition to longtime collaborator Redman, Bronx MC Cory Gunz, and more.

Earlier today, Meth released a lyric video for the album’s latest single, “Water.” The track follows “Straight Gutta,” “Reporting From the Slumz,” “Serious,” “88 Coupes,” and the title track, although not all of his recent releases are featured on The Meth Lab. Featuring fellow Staten Islander Chedda Bang, “Water” is produced by Pascal Zumaque and Code Red and is a dark, cautionary reflection of life in the hood, where the loss of life serves as a potent reminder of how dangerous the hustle can be.
