The DJ Premier & DOOM Collaboration Is Almost Here & Black Thought Is Joining the PRhyme Party
DJ Premier, Royce Da 5’9″ and Adrian Younge’s PRhyme collaboration is the gift that keeps on giving. The album, which featured vocals by Royce and production by Preemo, using samples of Younge’s music, was released to critical acclaim near the end of 2014. It featured guest verses from Common, Jay Electronica, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Slaughterhouse and Mac Miller. Now, PRhyme are releasing a deluxe edition of the LP and it includes new verses from some heavy hitters.
Earlier in the year, we reported that DOOM would be added to the project, marking the first time in their illustrious careers that he and Preemo worked together. PRhyme also has released an expanded “Beast Mode” version of their Southpaw soundtrack collaboration “Mode” with Logic, that will be included on the forthcoming LP. In addition to DOOM and Logic, PRhyme have revealed that Black Thought, Phonte and Joey Bada$$ will be the remaining guest MCs joining the album. This also marks the first time Black Thought and Premier have recorded together and adds further detail to a photo Thought tweeted of the pair in February.

When asked about working with such an esteemed group of MCs, Royce said “When it comes to PRhyme we look for MCs that are considered elite at what they do. For me Hip-Hop is still a very competitive sport so working with these artists definitely raises the bar but I’m also motivated to come with my A game whenever I rap over a Premier track because of our past accomplishments.”
A release date for PRhyme deluxe has not yet been confirmed, but with an uptick in recent activity, including the release of “Mode” and PRhyme’s forthcoming show with Adrian Younge in NYC, it seems the album may be on its way sooner rather than later. Here’s a look at Preemo and Royce discussing PRhyme in detail last year.
Also, PRhyme have released a lyric video for “Microphone Preem,” their collaboration with Slaughterhouse, which you can view below.
