DJ Quik Is Releasing Rosecrans, A Joint EP With Problem, Tomorrow. Here’s The Tracklist

DJ Quik has been relatively quiet since the release of 2014’s The Midnight Life, but the producer/MC is coming back on the scene, imminently. Tomorrow (April 20), he and Problem will fuse two generations of Compton on a joint EP titled Rosecrans. Named after the throughway that has been referenced by a long line of Hub City MCs, the project was produced by both Quik and Problem.

This evening, Problem spoke with Shade 45’s Rude Jude about the project, saying “It’s a dream come true for me. He allowed me to be the ‘me’ that I am on the project and actually produce with him. It was crazy to watch him mix and master, and just the instrumentation that we used on the project, it was just crazy. The fact that we wasn’t trying to make a project and this kind of just happened made it even more beautiful. This is just something big for the city and something for both of us to just throw out for the people.”

Quik and Problem have worked together for years, having collaborated on songs like “Problem,” more than 7 years ago. When asked how the project came about, Problem said “We hadn’t seen each other in a while, and we linked in the studio a couple of months ago, and the vibe was just there. Just pulling up samples and different beats and different drums, and we was just cuttin’ records. We looked up and had like 8 of them done.” When they realized what they had on their hands, they said “Man, let’s just drop this for the people.”

The two artists shared Compton heritage is a dominant theme throughout the EP. Problem said of the album’s namesake, “It’s the only street that runs through Compton, all the way without stops or breaks in it.” He also revealed that the song, “A New Nite/Rosecrans Groove,” is Quik’s remake of his classic, “Tonite.” “It’s been a great ride. I can’t wait for people to hear this project,” said Problem to Jude.
